Friends

[20091102] Friends
You can choose your friends. You can't choose your family. Well, that latter aphorism isn't 100% correct. You do choose your spouse.

At any rate I'm pleased with my friends. I immensely enjoyed this past weekend, boating on Donner Lake, and the the previous weekend, when I went Kayaking on Elkhorn slough. Getting my Kayak on the water is a real pleasure. Having friends to share the experience adds value. Watching 'My Cousin Vinnie' - a hilarious delight.

[20091023] 42
The fence is done. The dog is contained. Life the universe and everything continues. Without my favorite Aunt. She passed away a couple of weeks ago, and I went to her funeral - in Washington. As I've mentioned to a few folks now, once you pass 40 you go to fewer weddings, and more funerals. <sigh>

[20090712] Fencing.

Rats, foiled again. In College the sixth member of the six person fencing team was me. The past few weekends I've been spending my time fencing. The point tho' is that this is the more mundane fencing.

My son's dog recently escaped, was captured by the neighborly SPCA, we had the privilege of providing some stimulus funding to the toon of $97 to bail the K9 out.

So, I've been fencing. Replacing rotten posts. Dig it? Man do we have tough soil. In an effort to soften the ground, I put water to soak in the post holes once they had been dug through the relatively easy first foot or so. The ground has so much clay/adobe, that a week later I wound up bailing the water out. About two inches below the water? Tough clay. Anybody want some clay? I've got plenty. I'll even show you where to dig to get it!!! ;)

[20090626] Going Backpacking this weekend.

Communing with nature, inhaling the fresh-HEY! Quick <cough> kicking up *DUST* err, clean country air. The weather forecast is for a nice balmy 86 degrees.... I'll be bringing water!!

[20090619] My Trip to China last April was a blast.

Spending more time there would have been even better. The trip was too short. My Camera was quite busy, taking around 3k pictures, many of which are fairly decent, and some will probably be surfacing here...

[20090415] I'm taking a brief Holiday.

Who knows, I may get back with some new pics.

[20081220] Happy HollyDaze Everybody!

[20081102] Hope

A battered nation turned to it's last best hope for peace and prosperity.

Say Hello to ebainhardt

Tue Apr 17, 2007, 8:50 PM
Update: Emil has created his own site.

Recently I introduced a former college roomate of mine to DA ebainhardt. He's a great artist in my opinion, he's worked with photography, oil painting, water colors, explored sculpture and bronze casting.

His specialty has been portraits. One of my favorites of his more recent works is a departure from this, Picture Window

This image can be viewed on his Still Life Page.

Yosemite - Studies

Sun Nov 12, 2006, 9:47 PM
I'm posting a few photos I've taken of Yosemite. I'm of the opinion it is the most beautiful place in California, and probably the most photographed. In doing a search on DA for 'Yosemite', I came up with nearly three thousand pictures. A quick perusal found some pictures which I think do Yosemite proud:

Yosemite by other artists:

Tag, I'm it.

Mon Apr 3, 2006, 8:03 PM
I've been tagged by [Nivao] in her journal entry so here goes:

6 odd things about myself:

  1. I don't drink coffee
  2. I quit smoking when I was in second grade
  3. The only competitive team sport I've engaged in was college fencing
  4. I moved a eleven times before graduating from High School (No I wasn't a child of a Military Family)
  5. I'm left handed (mostly)
  6. Vor ich bearbeitete einen Sommer in Deutschland fast dreißig Jahren

Consider yourself tagged if
  1. You're reading this and
  2. you were born on an *ODD* numbered month.
(January, March, May....)
  3. You live with another mammal (human, dog, cat etc)
